This extraordinary new yarn from Laines du Nord took us by surprise. Plume defies logic in so many ways: nearly-weightless, chunky...cotton?! This unbelievably soft, textured yarn produces a gauge of 14 stitches over 10 cm on 4 mm to 5 mm needles. The resulting fabric has a nubby, fluffy, yet silky, boucle-like texture and and a look that is both rebellious and luxurious. And it is light as air: our 20 cm x 14 cm (8" x 5 ½") swatch weighs barely 8 grams—that's less than one-fifth of a ball! The surprises kept coming, too: it doesn't shed, lies flat in stocking stitch, holds its shape when washed, and air-dries in just a few hours. As with many textured yarns, Plume really shines in purl-dominated fabric and is most suited to simple designs.
